Re: Hello new here and feelings have changed...

Best wishes.

I felt sort of the same when I left, although there were other factors that fed into my discomfort and departure. I just got the overwhelming sense that the CoC was not where I belonged, and I felt like I was wasting my time attending there.

PM me if you like.

Re: Back after a year

Welcome back! Judgmentalism is something I struggle with as well. It takes awhile. Don't get too frustrated or be too hard on yourself.

Re: Hi everybody!

Come on in! The exer board has a lot of good folks running around it; there's a good variety of CoC experiences here. A lot of us have family still in the CoC, too.

Re: Independent Christian churches

Some ICC churches are definitely less legalistic. I attended one in New Hampshire that was nothing like the Midwestern one my childhood friend grew up in and now preaches in (mentioned upthread). Honestly I felt the only difference between his church and mine was that they played music and we did no...

Re: Ask about Celtic Christianity

One of the things I like best about celtic Christianity is how it integrates a love of nature. It's very quiet, it seems to me. So sometimes I don't feel like sitting in a pew, either; i feel like a hike is a perfectly acceptable worship experience. John O'Donohue was an amazing writer. I only latch...

Re: Spouse Response to Leaving the coC?

My husband and I were both ready to leave at the same time. The first few months neither of us really went anywhere. So much of our shared experience was trying to fit in that CoC mold that we gave up, completely. And our relationship has been better for it. No one, especially me, is harassing him a...

Re: Leaving after the final chastising

Hello. You're in the right place and we are happy you've found us! Depression and anxiety is no fun at all and while you are on meds make sure you're taking care of yourself properly, because it will more than compound your situation if you don't. (PM me anytime.) Kind of like what KLP said--go on w...

Re: Introducing myself

Hello and welcome! Thanks for sharing your story. There are a number of people, myself included, who migrated to the DoC after leaving the CoC. Some of us stayed, some of us moved on, to other churches or to being religion-free, as GH mentioned. My stay with the DoC was short, but it was a very welc...
