Re: Conflicted Feelings

Welcome to the board.

I hope you get things worked out with your husband. IMO, that’s far more essential than getting the details of if, when, or where you go to church.

Re: The walk of shame

When the coc says they look exactly like the first century church, I just have to shake my head. They look nothing like it. It's like which of all those NT churches do they want to look like... Galatia?... Corinth?.. They were all fraught with many more issues than just trying to decide how many so...

Re: The walk of shame

I don't see any example in the Bible of a non-believer worshiping with the believers. Similarly, I find no example of preachers routinely preaching the gospel message to those who already believe. If Christians want to do it by the book, rather than sitting in a pew 3 sessions a week with the same ...

Re: Funny stuff that happened in the c of C

My first experience at preparing the Lords table. I was asked to fill the cups with grape juice. I'd never done this before and told the person helping me that I had never done it before. They assured me it was simple. They showed me where the cups were kept and the trays. I asked where the grape j...

Re: New Old Member

Hello, all! I've been here before. My user name would have been either "Two" or "MisterTwo." I can't seem to find the log-in for that account and it may be that I don't have the old email address any more, or else I haven't been on since the board moved. So, since you won't reme...

Re: Lasting Effects

FFT, I can very much relate to many, if not most of the feelings you describe. Guilt: I feel guilty all the time, even about things I have no control over. If someone is having a bad day or feels uncomfortable, I feel like I have to apologize, even if I'm not the cause of it. I often question the th...

What frustrates me...

I was a very dedicated, faithful Christian in the conservative, non-institutional church of Christ until my mid 30s. Three times a week, active in teaching, preaching, leading prayers, and so forth. In my mid 30s, my faith was fully deconstructed after I starting looking into big questions, like &qu...

Re: How much self-hatred does it take...???

By the time I walked away from the conservative coc, I was emotionally and mentally spent. I had already been experiencing cognitive dissonance between what the church was doing and what I believed the Bible writers to be saying before family issues arose, associated with the coc, that added to the ...
