Re: The "No Paths" New Paths Thread

Atheism means determining right and wrong take a lot more effort - but you're free to not decide which is nice. Embracing your own personal ignorance is liberating although it can be frustrating. Instead of having ignorant illogical answers for all the great questions in life, you're mostly left wit...

Re: Atheists do NOT worship themselves or anything else

Every member of the same species having something in common is kind of what makes a species a species. The human ability to cooperate on complex tasks for long periods of time in variety of different circumstances is what made humans out-compete other animals trying to get the same resources we have...

Re: Atheists do NOT worship themselves or anything else

The fact that every society has some sort of very similar "moral" code is pretty clear proof God/Religion has nothing to do with its development. If it did, you'd expect to see moral cores vary as much as religions and cultures vary but they don't. They are fairly consistent. No stealing, ...

Re: CoC doctrine on authority is highly inconsistent

I agree Agricola, once any definition is given to God, absurdity immediately follows. The more definite and absolute the definition of God becomes (ala the CoC and other fundy religions) , the more absurd and utterly ridiculous the conclusions become. That absurdity gets written off by "the lor...

Re: CoC doctrine on authority is highly inconsistent

If God is perfect and possessed absolute power, logic would dictate his efforts should have perfect results in every possible circumstance. If God loves us and wants to "save" us then we should all be saved, on his first try. Furthermore we shouldn't need to be saved to begin with. Christi...

Agricola, I'm talking about CoC and fundamentalist doctrine.

Re: CoC doctrine on authority is highly inconsistent

So now things are relative? God is defined in absolute terms. ALL powerful, ALL loving, ALL forgiving. Not somewhat powerful depending upon the circumstances.

Re: CoC doctrine on authority is highly inconsistent

I never understood why a perfect God had to start with the "inadequate" OT law and then shift to NT law 2000 years later. Also, by what measurement is the NT law adequate? Literally billions of people, the vast majority of everyone who lives or ever lived is going to burn in hell if the fu...

Re: CoC doctrine on authority is highly inconsistent

This conversation reminds me of this guy, who actually tried to live by the letter of the bible, ALL of it OT and NT, for a year: He even tried to "stone" people by flicking pebbles at certain sinners. It definitely has a mocking tone to it, but I don't think religious people will actually...

Re: Atheists do NOT worship themselves or anything else

Yes, there are many different groups of atheists that do things together for lots of different reasons. The vast majority of atheists (myself included) have never been part of one. Most atheists don't advertise. Most atheists probably have t identified themselves as such to most people, if anyone. H...
