Re: What the CoC is right about?

Just trying to think about what issues is/was the CoC right about. 1) It seems they are very right to oppose infant baptism and emphasize it is the individual's decision to follow a particular religion/sect of a religion. Yes and No. I think baptism is an adaptation of the Jewish ritual bath as pra...

Re: Easter Posting/Zombie Passage Matthew 27:53

I found this article on the subject. h**ps://etsjets.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/files_JETS-PDFs_59_59-2_JETS_59-2_271-286_Quarles.pdf Essentially the article says Matthew was making reference to a number of passages from the prophets to make his point about what God's resurrection of Jesus had a...

Re: Israel and the 2nd coming.

I remember that 40 or 50 years ago some fundamentalists (excluding the CoC) supported Israel because they thought Israel had to exist for the second coming of Christ. Excerpt from https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/history/articles/the-state-of-israel-as-the-gateway-to-end-times For biblical literal...

Re: help - what is now meant by 'winsomely'?

I just googled it. Apparently it is/was a strategy to convert non-Christians, although this is changing in some groups as they feel under attack. In my limited experience the traditional CoC did not try to be winsome -- more in your face. From what I heard, the Boston movement COC did use this appro...

Re: Women required by scripture to wear skirts to church

The preacher at the CoC where I was baptized as an adult would preach against women wearing pants. He would say, "If you wonder why I say that, look behind you". I thought he meant that some women were too heavy to wear pants. If you want newcomers to understand you, then don't talk in CoC...

Re: Ehrman and Strauss's books

It bothers me that the Bible has been edited and changed. You can't prove what is supposed to be there if anything at all was inspired in the first place. As I see it, the Bible is a reflection of the ancient Hebrews -- and early Christian church's -- experience of God. When you read the Bible, you...

Re: Ehrman and Strauss's books

Another thing, David is portrayed as just so loving and kind to Saul despite Saul hunting him down and wanting him dead, with Sauls heir (Jonathon) being his best friend and all, turning against own father for David. It makes me suspect David may have killed Saul or defeated him in battle and to he...

Re: Women in Bible Classes in non-institutional churches participation

In Wednesday Bible class women did sometimes speak -- they would answer a question asked by the teacher of the class, for example. In the new converts Bible class, women were called upon to recite verses the class was supposed to memorize, and to answer questions.
