Re: Inspiration and Innerancy origins?

Where do the concepts of inspiration of the Bible and inerrancy of the Bible come from. And do they apply to both OT and NT? II Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" KJV

Re: Barton Stone on one loaf!

Interesting, just to play devils advocate for a minute, we know the 1st century Jerusalem church had at a minimum 3,000 baptized believers as recorded in Acts chapter 2. Then in Acts chapter 4 we have recorded that another 5,000 believed. This begs the question, just how big would a single loaf have...

Re: Original Version of Bible?

That smoke coming out his ears was from the Winston cigarettes he didn't let the congregation know he was smoking. That brings up an interesting subject. I never saw CoC preachers smoke and generally most elders didn't smoke at church although some did smoke you could smell it, they didn't seem to ...

Re: Any unmarried CoC ministers?

I never knew of a coC preacher of any real adult age that was a "never married". I do know one who is still preaching even though his wife left him some 15 or so years ago. He decided, after they had been married for probably ten years, that he should be a preacher. She didn't sign on for ...

Re: What are preachers taught about gospel discrepancies?

You should read up on a subject called memesis criticism and the Bible. Two scholars come to mind--- Richard C. Miller and Dennis R. Macdonald. Macdonald has several books you can read for free on archive org. The thesis is nemesis criticism is that the authors of the Bible took pagan stories and p...

Questions and discussions like this are exactly why fundie churches discourage critical thinking. If you start to really think about it and dig even a little bit the faith they promote begins to unravel quickly.

Re: Jesus trip to Egypt, what do you remember was taught?

Well, the question was "what do you remember was taught?"; my post pretty much sums up what I was taught. I'm not making any claims as to its historical accuracy or being true.

Re: Jesus trip to Egypt, what do you remember was taught?

According to the gospels, Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea. The shepherds came and paid homage. Following that, when he was eight days old Joseph and Mary traveled to Jerusalem to present him at the temple for his circumcision. Following that they returned to their home town of Nazareth. The Mag...

Re: The heat

We had a week of below 90 degree weather. It looks like it's fixing to jump back up above 100 soon. And I heard in the news dust from the Sahara is coming too. We also enjoyed a couple of weeks of unseasonably cool weather, but the heat has returned this week and is supposed to get hotter next week...

Re: Knocking on doors?

I have knocked many a door in another lifetime...I never found it to be especially effective. These days that is an insane idea. It is pretty common in the news about someone being killed just for pulling into the wrong driveway or knocking on the wrong door.
