What did your coC teach about the Trinity

As I remember (and husband agrees), in our coCs, we were taught a fairly conventional, if confusing, Christian view of the Trinity. DH even remembers a sermon on the Trinity given by our preacher (the guy who married us.) However, we both left the coC religion about 40 years ago. Yesterday I was tal...

Re: Most conservative CoC University

It is my impression that Florida College is the most conservative of all. It is affiliated with NICOC churches, which means it has to be conservative to keep drawing students. Anyone have recent experience with Florida College?

Re: Instrumental music in Church Weddings

My NICOC mother (rest her soul) thought it was unscriptural to have weddings in the church building no matter what music was used. She would not even attend such events. Therefore, my 50-year-old wedding pictures do not show my old COC.

Re: Remarriage after Divorce/No belief in Divorce

At my last COC, the preacher (and probably others) told a couple they needed to separate after it was discovered that they had previous unscriptural divorces. I don’t know if the divorces were before or after their baptisms, but anyway I don’t think that NICOC gave people a pass based on the sequenc...

If the church where I was raised was “liberal,” I don’t know what a “conservative” church could be.

Re: Deathbed conversions/baptisms

I remember at least one preacher in the church I attended as a child used to tell stories about people dying in hospitals wanting to be baptized. Often they had a bathtub big enough for this and sometimes even had to hold their hands over the tracheostomy tube/tracheostomy to perform the immersion....

Re: Women in Bible Classes in non-institutional churches participation

In every NICOC I attended, women were allowed to comment in Bible class. This was true in both teen and adult classes.

Re: Learning cuss words in other languages

I don’t cuss, since I was COC too long to develop the habit. But I recognize several Spanish cuss words just because so many people in my area speak Spanish.

Re: Hi Everyone!

Welcome! I can’t imagine how difficult it was to keep preaching when you were mentally through with the COC. As a woman, I never had my career attached to my COC religion. I was fortunate that my husband and I got ready to leave around the same time.
Wishing you happiness in you new freedom.
