Re: Holiday Time in the CoC
Christmas in the CoC is the worst! I remember every year, especially when Christmas fell on Sunday, it was just another service. The only mention of Christmas or Jesus at all was during the Lord's Supper when someone would get up there and say, "The WORLD is celebrating the birth of Jesus toda...

Re: missionary society
From what I was taught, since there is no example in the Bible it's not authorized. No example of paying utilities or holding a gospel meeting and paying for fliers and guest speakers either. My church would hold a "voluntary" second collection to donate to a preacher in the Philippines an...

Re: False teachings of the CoC
Another false teaching that's ridiculous ... To become an acceptable member of the CoC one must be baptized, and if you were baptized in a denominational church your baptism is automatically considered null and void ... Rebaptism is the standard procedure for anyone previously baptized in any churc...

Re: False teachings of the CoC
It's like 1Cor.11:22 being used to teach, "you can't eat in the church building." Well, of course that's not what it's saying, but in the so-called anti branch of the COC, that's what it means and there is no room for discussion. My mother related a story about this to me. One of our form...

Re: Holiday Time in the CoC
IN the coc - we celebrated all the holidays, but absolutely NONE of them was 'religious'. Not a single holiday showed up at church. Christmas came closest to getting its nose in the door. Once in a while in December, if the song leader was very very daring, we just MIGHT sing Hark the Herald Angels...

Re: False teachings of the CoC
4) Creeds The CoC claims "no creed but Christ" and or "no creed but the Bible". "speak where the Bible speaks, silent where the Bible is silent". These can be considered slogans, but they have come to a point where they are equal to scripture in the CoC. The plan of sa...

False teachings of the CoC
1) Instrumental Music CoC proof text Eph 5:19: "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;" First, the CoC does not sing Psalms. I don’t recall ever singing one, or hearing one when I visited another congregation. T...
