A friend of mine suggested that instead of a long, drawn-out sermon, they have everyone stand and cheer, "Church of Christ! Church of Christ! YAY! Church of Christ!"
Every sermon, bulletin article and conversation is about "the church." That is their god.

Church As An Idol
I work with some C of C folks, and like those I was around during my younger years, it's all about "the church." God, Jesus, living a Christian life, etc. are given lip service at most. It's all about the church. Church this, church that. They worship the institution and brand, in addition...

Re: Targeting church members
Oh, we were always expected to do business with a church person if we needed a good or service they happened to provide. And they were often more expensive, but got away with it because of "the church."

Re: Starbucks fiasco
The manager overreacted. Once their friend arrived, that should have been the end of it. These guys were detained for several hours. The police messed up that part. The company president went to Philadelphia to meet the two gentlemen who were arrested. That was smart. He also met with the Mayor. Not...

Re: Tattle Tales
Geez. I didn't intend this to be a political thread.
Back on track--my friend told me has confronted one of the tattlers, who seemed both shocked and offended that my friend figured him out (which wasn't hard to do), and suggested he knock it off.

Re: CofC folk wisdom and sayings...
What comes to my mind is that a crew cut means it takes longer for hair to grow out, which means you don't need to have haircuts as frequently, which costs less if you go to a professional hair cutter. Hence, preparing for a harsh winter when money will be tight. I would get that. But I'd hear this...

Re: Tattle Tales
Update: my friend finally spoke up about the reaction to this situation. Said the person who tattled wasn't exactly telling the truth and shouldn't have been a tattle-tale. His manager dialed it back a bit, and everything seems to be normal for now.
