Re: New Handle- old visitor a decade ago

Welcome! I don't think people use "Handle" anymore. But that's ok. Most of us are old enough to understand.

I look forward to reading what you find! Certainly an interesting topic.

Re: Before Campbell ? Rumney Marsh and Bow Lane

Otherwise, did these groups believe and practice as the COC does now? Even the early coc didn't believe and practice as the coc does now. When my NICOC homeschool group did a church history series of lectures from a local-ish preacher, I don't think he mentioned those early groups at all (I m...

Re: Lack of Support on FB Group

I've also seen a tendency that people who are Ex C of C will join Facebook groups for people who are currently members of C of C, simply to argue with them. Sure, they can do this, but I think it is pointless. Why waste the time? I think that's quite rude. If the group is for coc members, let them ...

Re: Childless, Mothers/Fathers Day and Church of Christ

I have no kids. You can celebrate father's day all you want. It doesn't bother me. I just look around and see all the men in their mid forties with all the gray hair and I look at mine in the mirror later :D and not see a one. No kids no grey hairs. I'm in my 40's with 4 kids. My house is a t...

Re: Childless, Mothers/Fathers Day and Church of Christ

My coc didn't even mention the day yesterday. I was very glad (and I have kids). Last week was a sermon about why women shouldn't have leadership roles in the church, so if they had done a sermon on women being good mothers and housewives on Mother's Day (as has happened before), it would have felt ...

Re: Lack of Support on FB Group

That should have been the first thing that children in the CoC learn about God, and here Petros was 20 years old and it had never occurred to him. Maybe Petros was taught the words "God loves us" but everything else the CoC was teaching resulted in Petros dismissing that idea. Is that you...

Re: Lack of Support on FB Group

The L2L thing is nuts by the way....glad we never had that in NI. And of course we never did FC camps or Bible Bowl. Making church stuff into a competition just seemed so out of place to me...but I know lots of folks who enjoy it. It just gets those competitive juices flowing doing a quiz game/firs...

Re: Ask about Judaism

Jews believe God LIKES it when we argue with Him, and that argument ('dialog') is the best way to determine the best course of action - it is called 'arguments for the sake of Heaven' and it is the normal way of Jewish study - get a partner, and start arguing about what this verse means, what this ...

Re: KLP: Where I am on the Bible

thanks...I find when I go back and read an old posting that I could have written it better or made it more clear. But yes, many have such a binary way of thinking, that if you point out a flaw/weakness in some assertion that you must then hold the opposite position (because there are always only 2 ...

Re: Left COC 20 yrs ago, Family still harassing

Welcome! I'm astonished at the way coc members treat their own children when they leave, especially if they just go to another denomination.
