Re: Holy Spirit IS the Bible
True, but I have read them use Zechariah 13 to prove I Cor 13 was talking about the ending of special spiritual gifts. I Cor 13 may be saying that (theoretically speaking) but I do not think Zechariah is talking about that. Then they jump to dual meaning of OT passages, where they meant one thing t...

Coc usually uses 1 Corinthians 13:8,10 to argue cessation of spiritual gifts.B.H. wrote:I never agreed Zechariah 13 applied to cessation of New Testament gifts. I believe it was talking about the supposed prophets of idols and false gods.

Welcome! It's amazing how long it can take to deal with the coc feelings. I'm still in the beginning stages, myself. I'm at least lucky to have not grown up in the church. But even joining it as an adult, it messes with the mind.

I didn't listen to sermons as a kid either. As an adult, I had the attention span.agricola wrote:We have people here who actually LISTEN to sermons, can you imagine? I was starting to doze off in church by 15.

Re: New to the group - hello
Welcome! I have to laugh at the falling asleep. That's been my problem as well... I've heard everything over and over and over again for 20 years. They're not saying anything new. And now that I disagree with all of it, it's even worse.

Re: CofC folk wisdom and sayings...
Did you all experience hearing the same prayer phrases?? I remember week after week hearing one thing in the main morning prayer or the communion prayer: "We thank you Lord that we are able to live our lives without fear of molestation"...I think it was telling God that we are thankful th...

Re: It is Just so Refreshing.....
Struggler......what about all the people being re-baptized, going forward, etc.? Can't the original baptism be nullified by one's later bad behavior, according to cofc doctrine? Going forward to repent doesn't typically get you re-baptized though. I've only seen re-baptism when the first baptism wa...
