Re: CoC idiosyncrasies
"Parson" was acceptable, although not preferred in our particular faction. "Reverend" was considered sinful, and anyone who used it was sharply corrected. "Pastor" was also wrong and merited correction, but not quite as sharply. We often heard, "No man should be as...

Re: C of C Leader Meats Undercover Cops
It will be interesting to see how the Christian Chronicle reports on this, if it does. The guy is an academic and has written for some C of C publications, so he has a little "fame" in C of C circles.

C of C Leader Meats Undercover Cops
h**ps://nypost.com/2019/12/18/missouri-church-leader-tried-to-pay-for-sex-on-grindr-with-arbys-card/ I have heard of this guy, and finally remembered where. He had written a profile of George DeHoff (who was a family friend) when he was in college, and it was referenced in Mr. DeHoff's autobiography...

Re: a coc theological question
Sorry to hear about your stepmother. I hope you have many good memories of her.
And yes, I know Woodbine Funeral Home, both locations.
To answer your question, I don't know.

Re: Public shaming
I've seen those party buses and out of control bridal/bachelorette parties, so I am convinced that Hell is real.

Re: Public shaming
So the congregation I grew up in, I hadn't been around for the better part of a year with any consistency. Mostly due to work and distance from said job with traffic, plus I'd grown to like the freedom of being away from some of them. One afternoon I get a phone call from the person taking care of ...

Re: Public shaming
When someone publicly shames another person just because he or she can, the gloves should come off, and the shamer should be put in his or her place.

Re: NICOC evolving? Is it possible?
I would guess the NI churches have different factions, like the mainstream ones.

Re: Public shaming
I've attended churches where people were called out, not by name, for not attending this or that. We'd read something like, "Only a dozen people came to ...." When people came back after being back for a bit, they might read about in the bulletin the following week. The calls and questions...

Re: CoC congregational splits
From all I have read on here, the NI people are a lot more dysfunctional. Dysfunctional is an appropriate term. In my area there are serial splitters. One guy and his family have been to and or started NI CoC's all over the area. It is like he and his family are never happy or satisfied. This guy i...
