Re: Crazy things C of C have judged you for.

Among the highlights: (1) Wearing shorts - not "modest" for men or women (2) buying a raffle ticket - that's "gambling" (3) participating in a cakewalk at a town festival - also "gambling" (4) wearing flip-flops- only "hippies" or "homosexuals" wear ...

Re: Good Bye, Folks

Yes, it just a matter of jumping in and offering an opinion. That's what a message board is for. There are some posters who irritate me, but I ignore them.

Re: Anyone familiar with these lunatics?

I have seen some of his videos. His obsession with Baptists is over the top, and in general, he is a loon. In my opinion, he is not of God.

Re: Stopped going 5 months ago and crickets...

This is strange. To be honest, I don't think I have ever heard of a situation where someone stopped attending a cOC and didn't hear a peep from anyone. Shit, I got hounded day and night even when I was still attending. If I missed a service here or there (and I rarely ever missed) my phone blew up ...

Re: CoC congregational splits

One of our old churches divided, and a group formed a new congregation. I asked some of our family friends why it happened. Essentially, toadies of the former head elder at the original church decreed it wasn't "following the Bible," so they started a new church. That head elder had assume...

Re: The Church is Under Attack!

I can't forget all those times I heard someone pray about the privilege of being able to worship "without fear of mo-lestation," as if a bunch of pervs are gonna bust in and do unspeakable stuff. Freedom of religion is important, but that was overkill. That must have been a standard for a...

Re: The Church is Under Attack!

I remember on numerous occasions being told that, at any moment, police could come barging in our back doors and drag us all to jail because the world “hated” us (the CoC) and wanted to make worship illegal. Talk about terrifying for a kid to hear those things! Of course, like agricola said, once I...

Re: Things you don't miss about the c of c

Funny thing about "Just As I Am." All the hymnals I saw as a younger kid had only five of the stanzas. We got a new hymnal, which had all six. Yet, none of the leaders would include the last stanza and always stopped after the fifth verse. I was in college before I heard a C of C sing, &qu...

Re: I don't even have to give the name of the CoC

It has happened to me plenty of times, especially in places like Tennessee.

Re: Appearances

Appearances are part and parcel of the C of C doctrine. It's a gross misapplication of "avoid every appearance of evil." As long as everything looks "right," that's what matters. I have known so many who were horrible people all week, but every time the church door was open, they...
