Autonomous ... or not?
CoC preaches AUTONOMY! over all. Each church is an island, with its Elders and Deacons independent of each other - completely! BUT... after preaching autonomy over and over, they proceed to tell every other group what they should do, how they should do it, and when they should do it. How do they not...

Re: That Time of Year Again...
One year, my mom pasted the flyer to our meeting in the window of our family sedan and then of course picked me up at school, drove around town, etc.
I guess I should have been "dying" to invite people, but as a kid, I was just embarrassed we had a sign plastered to our car window.

Re: Plastic Flowers.
As a rule, plastic flowers are unacceptable because they smack of tackiness. However, real flowers are acceptable as long as the vases aren't too ostentatious. The elders alone are qualified to make such earth-shattering decisions. Musical instruments in the church building are strictly verboten .....

Re: Plastic Flowers.
You can buy the organ, but you cannot use it. And you can buy the kitchen, but again, it cannot be used. But the kitchen and organ would give the appearance of evil and engaging in unauthorized activities and must be avoided in order to be a distinctive people and Gospel. It is like some of you fol...

Re: Plastic Flowers.
regarding the flowers being purchased by an individual outside "The Lord's Money". If I wanted to buy an organ or a kitchen with my money, would they be ok with that? LOL

Plastic Flowers.
the CoC claims to need necessary inference for anything not specifically commanded in the bible and they condemn other groups for kitchens, fellowship halls, church buses, whatever (I never understood how they could preach autonomy, but then condemn anything other "autonomous" groups did i...

Has to be real... if they hired an actor, he wouldn't have the tats.Dawggone wrote:Hey Opie, I can only assume it's a real person sharing his story. I've never met him so I'm not sure. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I sure though that if everyone who left the coc made a video the web would shut down.

Re: An Observation
remember, the CoC only reveres the New Testament only - the OT is for our learning only - I find the CoC feels they can use the OT to prove a point - Nadab and Abihu, whatever, but if you try to prove a point with the OT, it isn't valid scripture. A one-way theological street so to speak (or type).

Re: An Observation
I think the waters are being muddied slightly with the do they / don't they worship the bible itself because I think the original post carries a lot of truth - the CoCers are, in my opinion, obsessed with church/the church itself almost to the point of lessening the relationship to God and Jesus. To...
