Thanks for the response. I won't push it further as I think we understand each other. I do appreciate the discussion though and I respect your beliefs. Have a good one. =)

Re: The State Religion of the 50s and being marginalized....
Well fair enough about Daniel, I accept your beliefs and respect them. Just wanted to counterpoint about the things the messiah didn't accomplish in his first advent are not a problem to OT reading people who believe in the millennial reign of messiah. Daniel may not be an official prophet, but his ...

Re: The State Religion of the 50s and being marginalized....
Daniel is not considered a prophet by anybody but Christians, william. Anybody can research the evolution of the idea of 'the messiah'. At the end of the Second Temple period, the messiah was definitely expected to be a this-world secular ruler from the line of King David, who would drive out the R...

Re: The State Religion of the 50s and being marginalized....
Jesus didn't accomplish world peace, therefore Jesus was not the messiah. It's as simple as that from the Jewish POV. Nothing against the guy: he just didn't fulfill the job description. Yes, this is problematic for CoC that doesn't believe in the millennial reign of the messiah, but it isn't a pro...

Re: The State Religion of the 50s and being marginalized....
The Northern Kingdom's population was mass-deported wholesale east into the Mesopotamian area - not all of them, but most of the upper classes at least. Then strangers from other conquered lands were moved IN - and that's the objection the Southern Kingdom of Judah had to the northerners generally ...

Re: The State Religion of the 50s and being marginalized....
Deciding who is and isn't a real Jew or recognized as a Jew may not be a new idea. The Jews did it themselves both between the Northern tribes and Southern tribes and after they were conquered. Did the Jews considered the northern tribes remnants in Samaria to be Jewish? The ones who returned sort ...

Re: The State Religion of the 50s and being marginalized....
We said the Lord's prayer before lunch in public kindergarten. (1975) Regarding the comment that agricola said about not knowing the Jews were still alive - I have heard from CoC preachers that none of the Jews alive today are "real" Jews - they are ashkanazi (sp?) Jews from eastern Europe...

Re: The Lord's Prayer
As we were saying the Lord's Prayer in Church tonight, I remembered that my mother and our Church of Christ would not say the Lord's prayer. There was some issue about "your kingdom come" as I recall. Did your CoC every recite the Lord's prayer? If they didn't, what was their reasoning to...

Re: Visiting Other Churches
My grandparents on my Dad's side were baptists. My mom's parents were CoC and she had converted my dad after years of nagging him to come to CoC. My baptist grandparents asked us to come to their revival - small baptist church in Tennessee in the late 1970s - I was around 8 or 9. I honestly don't re...
