Re: Autonomous ... or not?

CoC preaches AUTONOMY! over all. Each church is an island, with its Elders and Deacons independent of each other - completely! BUT... after preaching autonomy over and over, they proceed to tell every other group what they should do, how they should do it, and when they should do it. How do they no...

Re: Autonomous ... or not?

So being autonomous mean that one church cannot and is not responsible to go "fix" another congregation. But to say that congregations cannot and shall not exhort, encourage, help, rebuke, or support each other because they are "autonomous" is without basis IMO. Being autonomous...

Re: Autonomous ... or not?

One thing I like about the CoC is its stance on autonomy, as long as it's truly autonomous. Too many churches are controlled by a super leader, controlling board, or an etched in stone creed that often spreads all kinds of strange teaching throughout hundreds of satellite churches. At least being au...

Re: Plastic Flowers.

A careful exegesis of Jude 2:7-9 should forever settle the "steeples and stained glass" situation, or not! I guess you got the Spinal Tap translation, because my Jude only goes to one.   I kept looking for "Jude 2" online........have been gone from cofc so long I...

Re: Left coc long ago. Husband left recently..

Yikes! another example of the holier-than-thou CoC creating ridiculous guilt trips in an attempt to control its members. Unfortunately, they could care less about the damage they create in families, or so brainwashed they think it's their duty to Insure your exact conformity to their rigid beliefs ....

Re: Plastic Flowers.

As a rule, plastic flowers are unacceptable because they smack of tackiness. However, real flowers are acceptable as long as the vases aren't too ostentatious. The elders alone are qualified to make such earth-shattering decisions. Musical instruments in the church building are strictly verboten ......

Re: Thank you for having me here!

I left after 65 years, dragging my feet the last 15-20 years ... slow learner! Onward......just something I have come to believe.....we don't have to apologize for how slowly, perhaps, it took us to emerge from the bondage. People....it's hard. It's written onto our DNA. We are doing great just to ...

I am ex-Church of Christ member of 50 years, who broke free from the bondage of religion and now enjoy freedom in a relationship with our savior Christ Jesus. I hope to be an inspiration to others and help them to transition into a new walk with our Lord. Romans 8:1-2 Therefore, there is now no con...
