Re: New here-left 16 years ago

SolaDude, from my mom’s diaries I learned that between the time we were shunned as a family and my mom leaving church then returning to church, she was having affairs, dancing, drinking, smoking — all very uncharacteristic and unusual for her. We had no idea, none whatsoever. Meaning my brother and...

Re: New here-left 16 years ago

Thank you. SolaDude, my mom actually lived a "double-life" for awhile that I didn't learn about until she gave me her diaries. I didn't read them until she passed away in 2008. Going back to the cofC for her was just something she needed to feel "righteous" and "right with ...

Re: New here-left 16 years ago

I'm very sorry to hear of this happening to your family, but am glad you posted here. I especially am surprised at your and your Mom's great patience with the CofC, going back to it after all of this happened. But I hope your new path with be very positive for you now and you can move on.

Re: Left Years Ago… family still in.

Thank you for sharing your story here. You will find great support here, I think. I personally am still a Christian, others here are not. And I note that you are more reformed in your theology, and I am too. You know, these CofC people like your Dad have simply had a very judgmental concept of Chris...

Re: Old Testament sermons predominate.

[qI can understand your perspective given what I've heard you say about your "church". I'm not sure how one would unpack such learning, it's so adverse to Christianity, it's almost a hopeless endeavor, it would seem to me. Its not "my church" it is my relatives, I just go there ...

Re: Old Testament sermons predominate.

Actually I think they are just trying to find something to talk about in their sermons. The New Testament really doesn't have much interesting, Can you imagine teaching just from the New Testament twice Sunday and also teaching classes on Sunday and Wednesday night like most preachers do for say 20...

Your church is really something else.

Re: Old Testament sermons predominate.

Lecture Sunday was about how Nehmiah fought his to develop a righteous nation. Tried to tie this to modern day Christianity. Really didn't make any sense. My thought would be that most likely, your CofC views the United States of America as a theocracy, so all of the Old Testament stories it uses w...
