Re: The New Testament Church was a Mega Church

Re: Keeping up appearances
Yeah, I could wear pants on Wednesday night, even if there wasn't snow on the ground. Sunday morning, not so much.

Re: Where's the coC at the County Fair?
A few years ago, I was at our county fair and ran into someone from the congregation I was in the process of deciding to leave at the time. We exchanged a few pleasantries, and moved on. A few days later I got a card in the mail from him. I expected something like "We've been missing you, and h...

Wow, Clayton is too...I dunno, scientific? for them? I mean, I'm not a fan, but I gave up young earth creationism in college -- the science-majors-only Bible class (Christian View of Science) at Harding pushed me over, after questioning it for some years. Really wish the material taught in that clas...

Jumping back a bit -- I've been out of town -- another thing we weren't supposed to do was shop at the Salvation Army thrift store, because that would be financially supporting another religion.

Re: The "Pattern" and "Ministers"
So if they qualify as an Elder then we can call them 'Pastor' correct? Of course not, even when biblical it's against the teachings of the coC and they are the final authority (on everything). Nah, that's when the Matthew passage gets invoked -- we don't call the elders Pastor, either -- or we didn...

Re: Average Joe becomes an Elder
I got a lecture once because Dad saw me pick up a piece that was already the right size, because that meant I had not broken the bread, which was apparently a Very Important Facet of the ritual.

Re: Field Report: Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
The DoC I've been attending has 75-100 people on Sunday. There's a small choir, on break for the summer, a piano, and sometimes a guitar or other instrument -- one of the young men did something on euphonium a couple of weeks ago. The pastor is female, and around my age (late 30s) -- which I know be...
