Re: Childless, Mothers/Fathers Day and Church of Christ

Everybody has a mother, even KLP...but I skipped the mother's day sermon. Probably will skip father's day too. Generally too much schmaltz for my liking.

Re: Lack of Support on FB Group

The L2L thing is nuts by the way....glad we never had that in NI. And of course we never did FC camps or Bible Bowl. Making church stuff into a competition just seemed so out of place to me...but I know lots of folks who enjoy it. It just gets those competitive juices flowing doing a quiz game/first...

Re: The Most Difficult Thing About Leaving the CofC

I look at the "tribalism" and divisions of all types in society today and I am not so sure that CofC is the root of black/white thinking. It seems most of society is split into two camps and they each think the other works from bad motives if not just out and out corrupt and evil. Ya know,...

Re: Lack of Support on FB Group

Ha...causing drama. From what I have seen, there is usually plenty of "drama" to go around that leads up to someone leaving. On FB...maybe they reacted to the term "brainwashed"? I know many people (not church related) who generally don't react well to others telling them ...

Re: KLP: Where I am on the Bible

thanks...I find when I go back and read an old posting that I could have written it better or made it more clear. But yes, many have such a binary way of thinking, that if you point out a flaw/weakness in some assertion that you must then hold the opposite position (because there are always only 2 p...

Re: The "In Order to Receive" World View of the CofC

Agreed on the word views and see them more like a continuum of motivations or thinking. Proverbs starts off with "fear" being the reason and motivator. And I think the lowest level motivator is to fear Hell and wish to avoid Hell. But higher level motivations and more mature levels deal wi...

Re: The Narrow and Wide Path

As I recall, there are only two paths, wide and narrow. To me, it would be a curious argument to suggest that the CofC is in any way the "wide path" when it is constantly pointed out here how few members it comprises. :) I mean at least most CofC congregations have a water fountain, so the...

Re: Revisiting doctrines and topics

Peter was under the impression that Christians needed to make effort to confirm their calling and election and to make it "sure". Peter seems to not have had a full revelation yet of how no amount of effort or works could possibly effect God's elect. 2 Peter 1

Re: Ask About LDS

The LDS consider it the duty of the family (parent/father) for faith formation in the children. This is in contrast to those that just bring their kids to Bible school and camps and catechism classes. It is the duty of the father to see to this formation of faith. Amish tend towards Man instructing ...

Re: The Willis Family

Yeah, those two women from Oregon or Washington drove the family down to California for a last road trip I guess. Terrible and so sad.
