Re: A year of healing

Hi. I'm new here. I found this forum several years ago when I was still working out my struggles within the coC. Though my family left the coC a little over a year ago, I was triggered today, which led me to back to this place again. Let me share my story. ... As for the trigger I mentioned at the ...

Re: coc re-branding?

predenominational "predenominational".....HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I haven't heard that one, but I bet I will soon! A couple of years ago sitting in a Wednesday night Bible class a guy (who I'm sure annoyed his coworkers to no end) said something about telling a guy the CoC was established in A...

Re: Church of Christ folks don’t get it

True, but there has been an ever-growing evangelical subculture here in the United States over the past 20 years or so. It includes many other Christian denominations. I think C of C has been eclipsed in it's weirdness. Yeah, at least I haven't (yet) heard of CoC people thinking that their god is t...

Re: Forbidding instruments

What if God says on judgement day, I never told you to sing exclusively, I only encouraged you to sing. Teachers in Churches of Christ use their (un-scriptural) rules about "CENI" (command, example, and necessary inference) in order to say that the "silence of the scriptures" am...

Re: coc re-branding?

Yes, NICOC uses the term "evangelist" instead of pastor. Never use the word "pastor" with them!! As far as the term "undenominational", have never heard them use that; sounds suspicious. They could be going lib'rul. I think this may be because there are so ...

Re: My story of leaving the coC

I remember a church in Oklahoma being taken to court by a former member. Someone familiar with the case told me they had posted a notice of withdrawal from her in a public place (like a grocery store bulletin board or some such). Ah! It's the Collinsville, OK, Church of Christ. This 1984 article in ...

Re: Things you don't miss about the c of c

You go in a Roman Catholic church, and they have a crucifix right down front and center (a crucifix, for those who aren't aware, is a cross with Jesus on it)... . Interesting point! And I don't THINK that was the original idea of the whole movement - I think the original idea involved seeing the Bi...

Re: Things you don't miss about the c of c

Second, their belief that the Bible is inerrant and literally God breathed. And that connects with their tendency to at least appear to worship the Bible. In any case the Bible is their only accepted truth for all things related to God. The Word was with God and the Word was God. The Bible is the W...

Re: Things you don't miss about the c of c

"BAPTISTS ARE TOO LIBERAL IN THEIR BIBLICAL INTERPRETATIONS." There you have it. Baptists are too liberal. Instrumental music! What could be more liberal? Kitchens in the building! (And we in the NI CoC used to [still do, I guess] refer to the mainline churches as the "liberal" ...

Re: My story of leaving the coC

Do write a letter, for legal reasons, informing the Elders that you are withdrawing your membership from that congregation and the Churches of Christ. At that point they have no legal authority over you. It’s important that you do that other wise you are legally still under their authority. I have ...
