Church publishes email/phone of couple from another church!

This post falls under the "crazy experiences" category. I still go to a Church of Christ for reasons that I've explained before. They would consider me a "struggling christian," I suppose, because I was outed as an atheist and managed to convince them that I was going to try to b...

Re: Things you don't miss about the c of c

Interesting list. Not all of it have I experienced! 4. As someone said, I've never heard of keeping Lord's Supper "elements" at home. But then, until the last few years, I never experienced weather issues preventing us from being there. But generally if that happens they consider it being ...

Re: Quick Hide the Beer!

Bible doesn't say anything about beer. :) Technically, it does. "Strong drink" in the Bible was grain alcohol. "Wine" was fruit alcohol. They didn't have what we call "strong drink" today. So in Numbers 28, there's a required daily offering of an umblemished lamb, a pr...

Re: Do you have a favorite Bible?

What is the latest sexy version in cofc circles? Are they still using the NKJV? My congregation was using NKJV, but now they've switched to ESV some years back. Some folks still use other versions, of course. The sermon slides are mostly ESV now unless using other versions to compare. The NLT will ...

Re: The "Never Understoods" List

The original premise of the restoration movement was fatally flawed from its inception. It was believed all one had to do was follow & adhere to the Bible as literally as possible, because the Bible was accepted as the literal words of God. The Bible was accepted as a literal instruction manual...

Re: The Four Main Enemies of Faith

1) Worry 2) Doubt 3) Fear 4) Human reasoning/logic IMHO, faith takes a back seat to all four of these in the CofC...resulting in much of the anxiety and emotional distress suffered by those who leave it. 1) You worry about your salvation all the time..... 2) at times throughout your life, you doubt...

Re: Actually, It's Based on Humanism

I was taught that Acts 2:38 said everything basically....and therefore the language in that verse "and ye shall receive the gift of Holy Spirit" comes (linear reasoning) at the time of or just after your water baptism and is the operative language of getting the "indwelling" of ...

Re: Repression in the CofC

Yeah, the people I confide in are NOT members of the coc. They're friends from outside of church. They are Christians... Is it possible that they wouldn't confide in people in their own churches, either? I don't know the answer to that, but if I personally would feel more comfortable having an inti...

Re: Oprah 2020?

While I would probably agree with a lot of her political positions, I can't imagine having the woman who gave us "The Secret" and Dr. Oz as the most powerful person in the world. Would Deepak Chopra be a cabinet member? Nancy Reagan supposedly influenced her husband after consulting a psyc...

Re: ACC Prohibits Students from working at Hooters!

Now, now, that's Abilene Christian UNIVERSITY. (Since the early 1980s, IIRC.)

Both of my wife's parents graduated from there. That was in the 1950s before it was associated with the "liberal" Churches of Christ :D :D :D

(That was before the split.)
