Re: A Question for Agricola

Christianity ALSO rose up out of the Pharisaic movement, as long as it stayed within Jewish circles - but frankly Christianity - once it moved into 'gentile' groups - is strongly colored by a whole lot of Hellenistic (Greek, Roman) philosophy, like the dichotomy between 'matter' and 'spirit', immort...

Re: A Question for Agricola

Once the Temple was destroyed, Judaism changed AGAIN, into what we now call 'rabbinic Judaism', which is every single variety of modern Judaism in the world today, really. Rabbinic Judaism is synagogue oriented, text/study oriented, and arose mostly out of the Pharisaic philosophical school of late ...

Re: A Question for Agricola

So, do we count the temple that was erected by Ezra and Herod's temple as one and the same??? Exactly how does that work? I thought they were distinctly different structures. Yes, Herod's temple is not considered a NEW temple, but a (fairly radical and complete) REMODELING on Ezra's Temple. Sort of...

Re: A Question for Agricola

If there is one thing Jews are, it is deeply practical. If something isn't around, then obviously, you can't do whatever it is. So we don't. We read about doing it instead. Sometimes, we substitute something else - typically making charitable donations. So that's very likely too. Now, I do not KNOW ...

Re: help - what is now meant by 'winsomely'?

I just googled it. Apparently it is/was a strategy to convert non-Christians, although this is changing in some groups as they feel under attack. In my limited experience the traditional CoC did not try to be winsome -- more in your face. From what I heard, the Boston movement COC did use this appr...

Re: help - what is now meant by 'winsomely'?

Google is your friend...haven't you looked it up? Yes, but all I got was the textbook definition, which is what I already knew. THESE books are using this word OFTEN as some kind of positive Christian descriptor - and I don't remember a specifically 'Christian' use of it - For example, Mormons use ...

help - what is now meant by 'winsomely'?

Recently, I've dipped into a few nonfiction books, and two of them were covering recent events within the evangelical world - Russell Moore's rather preacherly but fine book Losing Our Religion h**ps://www.amazon.com/Losing-Our-Religion-Evangelical-America-ebook/dp/B0BPWRF4C5/ref=sr_1_1?crid=INLTROX...

Re: How to change my password in my profile at ex-churchofchrist.com ??

As far as I know, you simply can't.
You can re-register as a different person with the password you prefer, though.

However, this really needs to be bumped up to the true top administrator of the site, who can walk you through it.

I'll let the administrator know.

Re: How the CoC made it to Texas!

https://christianchronicle.org/most-church-of-christ-members-in-the-u-s-reside-in-a-red-state/ This is an older article but it shows a map of where C of C are most prevalent in the USA. I must say I have not seen any C of C church in the area I live in now (southeastern Idaho). Interesting. Not a s...
