Re: So judgy

Legalism, judging others, and an strong emphasis on sin is common in all fundamentalist versions of Christianity. I think believing the Bible is literally and historically true is the likely source for that kind of thinking. That often leads to people believing the Bible is God in written form. That...

Re: Ready to Recover

Full disclosure before I offer any thoughts. My pedigree first. I wasn’t raised in a religious environment. My mother was agnostic and my father was an atheist. I met my future wife at the USO while serving in the Navy in 1965. We’ve been married for 54 years now. No thoughts of divorce and no infide...

Re: The cOC loathed "attend the church of your choice"

I remember one of our teenage girls went on a mission trip to another country. She was the only one from the congregation that went on that trip. It was customary for missionaries to give a report to the sponsoring congregation. When she returned the preacher and elders had a meeting to determine if...

Re: C of C Leader Meats Undercover Cops

Attempting to suppress ones own, or others, sexual desires and needs is foolish and will almost always end in failure. Labeling normal sexual impulses and desires as sin is, IMO, the ultimate control tactic. No matter how dedicated a person might be to their religious beliefs controlling their norma...

Re: Ex-CoC member glad to finally find support group

Welcome Cw83. My wife and I became members of the c of C thru a Bible study with a c of C minister. My wife was a cradle Southern Baptist. I was baptized into the Baptist Church shortly after we were married. There is a certain logic in the concept of restoration theology, at least on the surface. T...

Edited for agreement only.

I agree, we would not want to throw the baby out with the bath water.

I’m sure many Christians would agree with your mother.

Re: a coc theological question

We can agree to disagree. I keep searching for someone that will agree with me, but so far no luck. I know I’m right, so I’m mystified why I haven’t found lots of people that agree with me. 8-) Of all the possibilities I can’t imagine me actually being wrong as being one of those possibiliti...

Re: a coc theological question

Just more proof, IMO, the Bible has human origins. To me it just says that we all look for what we want to see. It doesn't prove or disprove anything. Could be just a misunderstanding or misinterpretation. Edited for agreement only. I agree, however a skeptic might think an all knowing all powerful...
