Re: Guinn v. Collinsville Church of Christ

The woman caught in adultry. Jesus said go on your way a sin no more. Were they hiding under the bed? john 4 kjv 10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given th...

Re: Typical! "RIP"

The problem is that they think that the waters of Baptism saves. And they will argue that is not what they believe until the cows come home. Sounds like you have really been a survivor in many ways in your life, ena. The CoC because I believed through put me though a Hell on earth as bad as you can...

Re: Typical! "RIP"

My church tried to scare you into baptism. I also remember sermons and prayers with statements like "Oh, how thankful we are that God gave us the waters of baptism", or "Oh, how can we ever express our thanks for God's word that gave us the waters of baptism", etc. Christ is sim...

Re: Typical! "RIP"

Don't we all remember all those dreadfully tearful "it's too late" sermons, talking about all those who didn't make it because they didn't have the chance to go through the 5 steps before they found themselves in their death bed? My church tried to scare you into baptism. Baptism should b...

Re: Typical! "RIP"

I didn't realize RIP or "Rest in Peace" was considered so offensive and hurtful. I have used it, carefully, in the past...usually not with someone who's death is recent. In reading through these, I have taken note of the comments and I'll not be using that anymore. When my Dad died, I rem...

Re: Typical! "RIP"

Yeah, like Moses and Elijah speaking with Jesus in the Transfiguration. Where had they been since their deaths? Walking the earth? Heaven? Elijah was taken up into heaven. Both have been given resurrection bodies. Jesus has one. We are not told this in detail but it lives for ever. Jesus is nearly ...

Re: Explaining Islam_new topic

I know a little old lady from Chile. She is cute and talks in Spanish and English with fellow Mexicans. I used to like to get her for buying burgers. Because I wear suspenders, she gave me a senior discount before I was 65. I am losing weight and I need suspenders to hold up my pants. My belly is bi...

Re: Explaining Islam_new topic

My accent in Modern Standard Arabic was great. Everyone could understand me. Nobody but news announcers actually SPEAKS Modern Standard Arabic. Everyone understood me just fine, and I didn't understand anybody else. Common problem. I know some Spanish. Mexicans speak it but with a different accent ...

Re: Explaining Islam_new topic

But doesn’t the COC baptize “in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost”? :?: My CoC did not talk about the Trinity. My father did talk about the Godhead which is similar. The Trinity was later a way of explaining the Nicean Creed. The Catholic/Orthodox churches split in 1054 CE over sp...

Re: Typical! "RIP"

Long before I deconverted I realized that people in the CoC were obsessed with "getting it right" to the point where they ignored the spirit of the law in an attempt to try to find a "letter of the law" that didn't even exist. The whole thing, but especially the "non-instit...
