Re: How the CoC made it to Texas!

I must say I have not seen any C of C church in the area I live in now (southeastern Idaho). Interesting. Not a single one. I went to the Guardian of Truth Foundation (big group in the NI, very important) lectures in their first or second year. There were probably 6 or 7 hundred people there and th...

Re: Christmas at Church?

I was quite surprised to see, as I drove home from doing my Lutheran services 2 weeks ago, a CoC that I know to be non-instrumental and that I strongly suspected of being NI based on the plainness of their building had put some decorations up on the exterior. Good for them!! Those plain little buil...

Re: Christmas at Church?

Many one cuppers shun Christmas trees and even personal observance of Christmas. The cite Jeremiah 10 in the KJV as direct condemnation of what became known as a Christmas tree. Oh, no. Seems I do remember that from that couple I knew once. They really objected to Halloween as well. What if the one...

Re: Christmas at Church?

What made it all even weirder is if December 24th or December 25th fell on a Sunday or a Wednesday. You still had to show up at the church and hear the sermon, but it wasn't a Christmas Eve service at all or a Christmas Day service, either. Just the typical COC BS Oh, yes. That was their way. You h...

Re: How the CoC made it to Texas!

I can't see an NI church decorating for Christmas!! But who knows; I don't have many contacts within that group now. Culture sometimes eventually wins out with them.

Re: How the CoC made it to Texas!

Church of Christ buildings are not known for being architectural masterpieces to begin with, but when the revenue has halved they look downright shoddy in a hurry. There are many tiny cofc buildings in Texas that have no windows. Apparently this was a trend back during the....50s or 60s? Something ...
