Re: CoC idiosyncrasies
Move it up to the 1900's actually - I believe the first time the a capella CoC was listed separately as a (sorry folks) denomination was around 1910. Good point. The CoC and Christian Churches were all considered the same denomination until that time. Didn't the split over instrumental music happen...

Re: CoC idiosyncrasies
Trust me - the coc is Protestant. Right down to symbolic 'blood and wine' and 'priesthood of all believers' and 'sola scriptura'. Protestant. I remember a guy in a Bible class saying a friend or coworker or some such was "amazed" when he told him the CoC was established in AD 33. My guess...

Re: There is hope.
Having been trained in a math, science, technical background, I accepted no premise, assertion or conclusion without Proof, mathematical, experimental, logical or tangible proof. The books above, plus many more, have given me solid proof that Judaism and Christianity are as mythical as Zeus, Thor, ...

Evolution from pond sludge to humans is OK because of reasoned arguments however there is no eye-witness nor is it reproducible. Some plants and animals evolve very fast, and it can be seen in nature and in the lab. That's one reason they use fruit flies in the lab -- you can get through a lot of g...

Re: C of C, Wuhan Coronavirus & Germs
Surprisingly, all of the NI-CoCs in Southeast Texas that I'm aware of have cancelled all services. My mother's church has a very few people go to the building and the preacher preaches, they have communion, they have prayers, and it's all streamed on Vimeo and Facebook Live. They distributed Matzo b...

Re: So judgy
And yet, ironically, the bible says "judge not that ye be not condemned". So there's a blatant disregard for scripture when fundamentalists are judging others. To be fair, though, we all do it...other faiths caution against it as well. Trying not to judge others is a discipline within its...

My mom was actually told once, "You can't go to Heaven working 3-11."

Re: Ready to Recover
Hi All! I apologize in advance that this will probably be painfully long. I came to the realization yesterday that my experiences have left me very hardened and closed off. I don't want to feel that way, so I'm ready to try to start my post CofC healing. This group really seems like a safe space, s...
