Re: Sex

It feels so exhilarating to be able to read whatever "trash" I want to read with no guilt. I just finished a book on male sexuality while visiting my mother. I told myself that if she catches me with the word "penis" all over the Kindle page, I would tell her that I've hit a seco...

Re: Bad Sermons & Worse Logic

....made the comment that however he still thinks it is legitimate and valid to preach about Jesus death and resurrection. The preacher needs to preach that Jesus also pooped and pissed while on earth. However, knowing everything except when his second coming would be, he always wiped himself in su...

Bad Sermons & Worse Logic

The Every-Holiday Sermon: "Millions of people will pick this day as one of the few days out of the year to worship the Lord, but weee worship the Lord every Sunday." "People tell me that homophobia is immoral! Are they gonna tell me that this book *holding up Bible* is immoral!?"...

Re: Good memories?

Florida College has been the most positive experience in my life, and saved me from becoming a bitter person. I think you're the first person I've ever heard say that. The FC graduates I've met were pretty dismissive or even scathing in their opinions of their alma mater. After 4 long years of atte...

Re: Good memories?

I always love singing hymns. Florida College has been the most positive experience in my life, and saved me from becoming a bitter person. I also enjoyed attending the "mega churches" in Tampa. My dad and I used to wake up at 6 am on Sunday morning to eat a pancake breakfast before church....

Re: Catholicism - feel free to ask

Though my mom does not identify as Catholic, she reads lots of Catholic books and regularly watches EWTN. Since she has left the coC, she has been trying to convince me to go Catholic for years, even though she hasn't. I have lots of respect for the Catholic church and what they have done for the ar...

Re: Church Humor / Pranks

My buddy and I would leaf through the song book and mentally add the words "...in my bathtub" to each song title. It makes the Sacred Selections surprisingly dirty and funny. That sounds similar to the fortune cookie game. "You will travel to many exotic places, in your bathtub...

Re: Church Hymns (and Hers) That Got on Your Nerves

One that always amused me (but not really annoyed me) went: "There's within my heart a melody Jesus whispers sweet and low: Fear not, I am with thee, peace, be still, in all of life's ebb and flow. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, sweetest name I know, fills my every longing, keeps me singing as I go.&quo...

Re: Early Christians versus Modern (US) Christians

I thought this was pretty interesting - it is a comparison (by one guy, admittedly) between what the first century Christians believed, behaved and taught versus what is 'fairly typical' of a particular sort of US Christian (aka fundamentalists such as coc) belief, behavior and teachings - enjoy: h...
