Re: Why Jon left

I actually attend a community church. I'm not able to watch the whole video right now, but I did watch the first minute and that's all it took to irritate me. "I was going nowhere. It was teaching a happy good feeling instead of the truth." How many people have said they felt like they wer...

Re: Jazz Hands

I was literally trying to find these videos a couple days ago to show one of my friends, but I forgot exactly what it was called and couldn't find them. Thanks so much for posting them! So funny! :)

Re: The beginning of the end for me

I remember a big debate came up once because one of the men wanted to call an upcoming gospel meeting a revival. His logic was, "Nobody wants to come to something called a meeting, that sounds boring and that may be one reason we never get any visitors." Referring to it as a revival was qu...

Re: Visiting Other Churches

I never understood the whole "God's house" deal with the COC. No food, no coffee, no weddings, no music, no playing cards (I got in trouble for this as a kid). What about the concept of God not dwelling in "houses made with hands"? The COC seems to be of two minds about this. Th...

Re: Visiting Other Churches

That reminds me of how no one really had a problem with having a wedding at a Baptist, Methodist or Catholic Church, but you couldn't dare have your wedding at a COC because "God's house is for worshiping Him, not having weddings". This implied, of course, that their church was "God's...

Re: Visiting Other Churches

My COCs (all NI) went so far as to overtly describe members of the denominations as "Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, etc." and members of the COC as "Christians." This was done in a directly comparative way so as to imply, not very subtly, that members of denominations were not...

Re: http://findthechurch.com

Lev - you reminded me of situation that arose that caused a stink. A few men would take the Lord's Supper to the shut-ins, either at their house or at the nursing home and let them partake. Some objected because we weren't coming together for that purpose. Same folks who thought it was wrong to tak...

Re: http://findthechurch.com

I don't find the idea of the site arrogant necessarily, because it could be useful for someone who is wanting to find a CoC if they are new to an area or visiting. What I find arrogant is the attitude that to be a true Christian, these churches are the only ones in the entire country you can visit t...

Re: http://findthechurch.com

I see my hometown COC is listed on there...I was surprised to see a second COC listened in my old home town, since we were always the only approved church in town. Turns out the second one in the list is literally just someone's house with a small sign out front saying, "Christians meet here&qu...

Re: Oh, golly

Our elders were always good about cancelling services when the weather got really bad. There were few things I loved more than that phone call on a Wednesday afternoon or Saturday night during a snow storm to let us know that services were cancelled. The only thing they were weird about was putting ...
