Performance is in the eye of the beholder, kip.
Remember when people considered facts and data and measurements as objective and useful for comparison. Remember when not voting for a budget and shutting down government was a terrible terrible thing?...maybe unpatriotic and certainly an attack on America.

I love these member berries, they are so good.

People (including you) just choose what they consider to be "facts" and "data" according to an ideological agenda. it was happening even back in
the "good old days" you reference.

While the stock market is booming at present, there are other factors to consider when determining the success or failure of an administration.

Enjoy your "member berries".

Oh the stock market -

Well, it so happens I pursued that topic recently with my advisor on Wall Street (yes, I have one). His take?

Wall Street - the stock market as a whole - is paying no attention to anything Trump says, because they KNOW that guy. He's a New Yorker. They know EXACTLY how to evaluate his statements: hot air from a blowhard. My advisor's exact words? "we're ignoring him."

The bull market has been in progress since Obama took office the first time in 2009, and is continuing. And any Republican policy that gives more money to RICH people, will merely continue to push the stock market higher - which benefits most average workers not at all, or at least, not tremendously. If they have money in the stock market, they are along for the ride, but they aren't driving. Without a rise in real wages, they can't even add to their investments in any significant way.
History is the fiction we invent to persuade ourselves that events are knowable and that life has order and direction. That's why events are always reinterpreted when values change. We need new versions of history to allow for our current prejudices.

From what I have read sister Agricola is correct. The stock market doing well does not mean the economy is doing well for everyone overall. From what I have read it is back in a bubble again and will crash in another year or two. Even Trump himself said this on his campaign.

I have a 401k and have about 23 more years to work. I have paid into social security since age 18 and hope it will still be around when I retire. I never married or had kids and am glad. It is just too hard to make a living these days and I see people struggling and making themselves sick trying to take care of their families.

Several years ago a big Methodist Church bought a bunch of gift cards and gave them away to help needy people during back to school time. That church told me that 70% of the kids in our school district live at poverty level or below. A good bunch above poverty are not much above it. You are not going to convicne me that 70% of those kids parents are lazy bums or druggies. When 70% of the kids are at poverty level that tells me something is wrong with the way the place is ran.

For all intents and purposes, the middle class is essentially gone....it started its extinction with Reagan and that decline has been shown statistically......I feel very sorry for anyone starting out their lives now in their 20's ......

I've been saying ever since the USSR fell that what has occurred would occur and that included the destruction of the middle class here in the US. You will, in the future, have a small well off class with a few what we could call middle class folks as their lackeys directly serving them, and the great mass of people will be poor. It's going back to what things were like before the Depression.

Sorry, but the facts are facts not subjective and optional.

The Political Left predicted absolute crash and calamity at the prospect of Trump being elected. Easy to verify these gloom and doom predictions.

Even CNN is able to admit that even just the election of Trump gave a crazy push to the market. Best rally since JFK.
http://money.cnn.com/2017/04/28/investi ... index.html

And then there is GDP...honestly, this is just facts and data. But yes I know it galls some people to have to admit or say anything positive about Trump or America.

And the increase in market values and the improvement in employment, wage growth, and recent tax cuts and bonuses help everyone...even the women marching and promising to resist all these good things from the Trump administration.

Now the Left wants to say that yes the Market is maybe good but has nothing to do with the President. Whatever...at least anemic "growth" we endured for 8yrs under the Progressive Socialism of President Obama is over. Yes, sure...that was some recovery we endured....some folks were enjoying so much "recovery" that they were put out of work with career ending layoffs.

Notice how Ivy uses the laughing emoticon yet the Mods don't have any issue with this. hmmm remember when laughing at someone was considered bad form around here?

Actually...I provided sources that would be contrarian to the supposed bias of KLP. But there is also the Bureau of Labor Stats and any number of govt and independent measurements of economic indicators. But yes I understand many are used to people voting and getting a consensus on what is factual, but actual facts and data are not handled in such a way. So no, there was no KLP deciding the GDP, average employment, average payroll, etc are on the increase since the election of Donald Trump.

And it is fact that many predicted absolute economic ruin in regards the election of Donald Trump. Now is the time to use your laughing emoticon...because that has been proved to be nothing by wishing for failure, which is what folks are hoping for...they are going to be happy at failure and collapse just so they can gloat. Actually what is needed is the crying emoticon because that really is sad.
