Left the CoC 3 years ago

Post by bigscaryatheist »

Hi,

I left the coC about 3 years ago, joined a "denominational church" alone (with no friends or family) for a couple of years but recently decided to leave Christianity altogether. I just don't feel like my life is any better with Christianity than without it at the moment.

I was raised in a super conservative family, sheltered, homeschooled k-12 etc. Living in the midwest with all my friends and family being still in that CoC mindset, it can be lonely. So that's why I'm here. It's great not to feel alone for a bit.

Welcome to the ex board! Browse around all you like.
History is the fiction we invent to persuade ourselves that events are knowable and that life has order and direction. That's why events are always reinterpreted when values change. We need new versions of history to allow for our current prejudices.

The COC did provide a very close friendship group for me. It wasn’t real, of course, since it fell apart after I left their church. That is one thing I miss about my old COC, but it is certainly not enough to draw me back to the fold. I live in a very small community now, and one reason I go to church is to help find and build some friendships. It will never be like what I had in the COC, because many of my neighbors have lived here for their entire lives, and they have solid friendships that are 40-60 years old. I am a newcomer, and always will be, I think.
