Remember "Singing Night"?

A place to snark and vent about CoC doctrine and/or our experiences in the CoC. This is a place for SUPPORT and AGREEMENT only, not a place to tell someone their experience and feelings are wrong, or why we disagree with them.

Moogy, why don't you start a group on your own?

"Fa So La" get it? If you are still in Texas you will want to contact Gaylon Powell...he is the personal hub of all things S/H at least Texas.

A national regional list is at:

I googled Sacred Harp so I could hear what it sounded like. Don't Primitive Baptists and Mennonites use that singing method?

The Mennonite group that I was familiar with, did not. They had their own hymnal, with songs such as "Brother let me be your servant, Let me be as Christ to you". They welcomed songs from other traditions as well, and sang acapella.

My hubby participates in a Sacred Harp group. It is (ideally) a relaxed group, with participants taking turns choosing and leading songs from the Sacred Harp hymnal, and chatting or going out for coffee afterwards. The focus is on the moment, rather than performance driven.

They have a Sacred Harp convention every year in Henderson, TX. The next is scheduled for Aug 12-13 and is the 163rd convention.

It kind of reminded me of German soldiers singing martial anthems.
