church of Christ phrases

A place to snark and vent about CoC doctrine and/or our experiences in the CoC. This is a place for SUPPORT and AGREEMENT only, not a place to tell someone their experience and feelings are wrong, or why we disagree with them.

That's 'bringing shame and reproach UPON the church', you know!
History is the fiction we invent to persuade ourselves that events are knowable and that life has order and direction. That's why events are always reinterpreted when values change. We need new versions of history to allow for our current prejudices.

"member of the church"

"not a christian" (i.e. Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc)

"a widow indeed" (who remembers that one?)

"the brotherhood"

"going forward" or he "went forward". You knew exactly what it meant but it sounds weird.

or I heard this about a million times: "the old law was nailed to the cross"

or said in Lament about a church of Christ doctrine that the "denominations" didn't get/uphold. "Well I guess they just aren't reading their bibles"

Interestingly, when I was growing up in NE Texas it was called "going down to the front" or "going to the front".

I didn't hear the "going forward" phrase until I moved to another area of Texas. it was sometimes pronounced
"going fahward".

EX: Johnny felt so guilt ridden that he went fahward after services Wednesday night.

Must be a liberal place because we are only authorized to have services upon the first day of the week. Perhaps you meant midweek Bible study or something like that?
Isn't the world wonderful...I am all for rational optimism and I am staying positive.
